With St Patricks day just around the corner we came to Farl to meet Matthew and see what they have going on for St Patrick’s day.
Stepping inside it sounds just like the best pubs with some lively chat and locals sat around the bar. They serve traditional Irish drinks, as well as a range of other UK and World beers and ciders. The Brennans was a little bit lively with a fresh keg on so I tried a Murphy’s Irish stout. It was really fresh, a bit maltly and quite creamy - my first Irish stout though I would definitely have another!
Matthew always had a dream about opening an Irish bar, and with Folkestone being such a great place to open a bar it’s been a real success.
There’s more of an Irish community in Folkestone than you might think, it is mainly a retirement community with people who came to help build the channel tunnel meeting partners in Kent and staying, as well as your DFL’s!
Farl is a lot more of a community centre for the Irish community than a pub, which really shows through in the warm and welcoming feel, as well as all the activities they have on. On Wednesday’s they are starting an Irish language class, and an Irish book club is coming soon.
If you are looking for something to do to celebrate St Patricks day they have a whole weekend planned with the rugby on Saturday, and on Sunday traditional Irish music.
On Tuesday from 9 am till 10am brave the March sea with a St Pat’s swim followed by a warm cup of Barry’s tea.
10:30 till 12 kids and parents event with tea and cake
And from 2 till 11 the main event… Rude Albert
Any other time head down for a drink and some community!
Farl is at 20 Cheriton Place, you can find them on Instagram if you search for #farl Folkestone - they don’t currently do social media but isn’t doing things in person so much better?
